Dr. Jack O'Brien, founding physician of Beverly Health in Beverly Hills, encouraged open conversations about HIV prevention and sexual wellness, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community. Dr. O'Brien, a doctor of osteopathic medicine, approached patient care by assessing overall health habits alongside sexual health discussions.

Dr. O'Brien observed that older patients remain fearful of HIV while younger patients approach it differently. He noted that many STIs, including HIV, are now treatable and manageable with appropriate care. He advocated for regular testing and awareness, emphasizing that sexual education often fails to address the realities of people's lives.

Dr. O'Brien discussed HIV prevention options like PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), an oral medication taken before potential HIV exposure. He also promoted YEZTUGO (lenacapavir), a prescription PrEP option administered as two injections every six months after starter dosing, available for adults and adolescents weighing at least 77 pounds. Dr. O'Brien offered YEZTUGO as an option for patients unable to take daily oral PrEP consistently or preferring a longer-acting option.

Dr. O'Brien emphasized that PrEP does not protect against other STIs, so condom use and safer sex practices remain important. His approach integrated broader health considerations, including sleep, nutrition, exercise, and overall wellbeing.

Dr. O'Brien used social media to share educational content about STI testing and sexual health issues, reaching people without access to specialized care. He noted that HIV disproportionately affects Black and Latino communities and those with limited access to care, calling this a major focus of his advocacy.
